3 | tablespoons | tomato sauce | |

|
Saute bacon in large saucepan with garlic clove until clove is golden brown. Remove garlic and stir in tomato sauce. Add water and let soup base cook to a rolling boil. Wash lentils under cold water. Drain. Add lentils to base. Allow to cook over medium heat, adding more water as needed during cooking. When lentils are tender, about 30 to 40 minutes, add fresh parsley. Add salt and ground pepper to taste.
